In Dubai, is it possible to discuss politics or religion publicly? Will someone be punished for anti-Islam statements for instance?

Yes, you can discuss politics and religion freely in Dubai. In fact, those are two of the most popular subjects among people when they smoke sheesha in Dubai.

However, slandering Islam or making false and damaging statements about anyone or anything in Dubai is certainly a punishable offence. If you walk around the street saying “Muslims are bad people!”, you’d be definitely screwed.

You can practice any religion of your choice freely, but you can’t promote it.
