What are the main languages in Dubai?
Arabic is the official language, but English is widely spoken.
A new initiative will see all commercial establishments across Dubai using Arabic as the main language by the start of next year.
It’s in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make the Emirates a centre of excellence in the language.
Launched by the Department of Economic Development, the initiative means business must use Arabic as the primary language on menus, invoices and price tags.
It will also see call centres and reception desks have Arabic speakers.
The official language is Arabic. English is commonly spoken, and Hindi and Urdu are also spoken by many of the expatriates who live there. English is the language of operation of all hospitals and translators are available for communicating with patients who do not speak English.
